How to Freeze Celery: A Guide

Celery is a versatile vegetable that can add flavour and nutrition to many dishes. However, sometimes you may find yourself with more celery than you can use before it goes bad. Instead of throwing it away, you can freeze it and use it later. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to freeze celery to help you make the most of this nutritious vegetable.

Preparation

Before freezing celery, it is essential to prepare it properly.

Begin by trimming the celery and removing any strings if necessary.

Then, wash it thoroughly and cut it into short lengths.

Next, blanch the celery in boiling water for three minutes. This step helps to preserve the celery's color, texture, and nutrients.

Once done, drain the water and cool the celery in iced water. Finally, drain the celery and pat dry.

Packaging

Proper packaging is crucial when it comes to freezing celery.

Pack the celery into labelled and dated freezer bags or containers.

Make sure to squeeze out any excess air to prevent freezer burn.

Label each bag with the date and the contents to ensure freshness and easy identification.

Thawing

When you're ready to use the frozen celery, you have two options.

You can boil it for ten minutes straight from the freezer or add it directly to casseroles, soups, or other dishes. Boiling is the preferred method if you plan to use celery as a standalone ingredient. However, if you're using it as an ingredient in a dish, adding it directly is sufficient.

Storage Time

6 months

Frozen celery can last up to six months if stored correctly. Make sure you don't keep it in the freezer for an extended period, or it may lose its flavor and nutritional value.

Health and Auto-immune Diseases

I have auto-immune diseases and expected to be on medicine for the rest of my life, but I didn't want to live like that. My rheumatology Doctor was so supportive of the change I wanted to make, and with their help, I now manage my auto-immune diseases by being strict with my diet.

It can be quite frightening when you first find out you have to change the way you eat but for some of us' Food is our medicine.'

I have several websites, write blogs, and I'm currently in the process of writing a book.

I trained to be Holistic Health Coach, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher and Certified Gluten Free Practitioner in order to heal myself, my family and others who find themselves on the same journey as myself.

Photography

Our love for photography started on our travels. We wanted to capture images of the areas we travelled to both for our own records and for our family back at home. Some of these images were reproduced as watercolours. Our favourite images we display at home and friends often asked where we had purchased the pictures! Now you can purchase them online directly from us.
